I just changed some web files. I'm sure I did it right. Why won't my site load properly?

 

The most common reason for this is your web browser's cache. Clear it, and try previewing your site again.

How do I clear my web browser's cache?

Each time you access a file through your web browser, the browser caches (stores) it. This way, the files (including any images on the page) do not have to be retrieved from the remote website each time you click the Back or Forward buttons. You should periodically clear the cache to allow your browser to function more efficiently.

Internet Explorer 8

  • From the Tools menu select Internet Options.
  • Choose the General tab.
  • Under Browsing history, click Delete.
  • Tick the check box next to "Temporary Internet Files"
  • Click Delete.
  • Click OK to exit.

Internet Explorer 7

  • From the Tools menu select Internet Options.
  • Choose the General tab.
  • Under Browsing history, click Delete.
  • Next to "Temporary Internet Files," click Delete files.
  • Click Close, and then click OK to exit.

Internet Explorer 6.x for Windows

  • From the Tools menu select Internet Options.
  • Choose the General tab.
  • In the "Temporary Internet Files" section, click Delete Files.
  • To confirm the deletion, click OK.
  • In the Internet Options dialog box, click OK.

Firefox 3.5 or higher for Windows

  • From the Tools menu, select Clear Recent History.
  • In Time range to clear select everything.
  • Expand the Details section and make sure the check box beside Cache is ticked.
  • Click Clear Now.

Firefox 3.0 for Windows

  • From the Tools menu, select Clear Private Data, and then choose Cache.
  • Click Clear Private Data Now.

Google Chrome

  • Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.
  • Select Tools.
  • Select Clear browsing data.
  • In the dialog that appears, select the checkboxes for the types of information that you want to remove.
  • Use the "Clear data from this period" menu to select the amount of data that you want to delete.
  • Click Clear browsing data.

Netscape 8 for Windows

  • From the Tools menu, select Options.
  • Click Privacy.
  • Next to "Cache," click the Clear button.
  • If you'd like to set the size of the cache and set the browser to clear the cache when you close it, click the + (plus sign) next to "Cache" and change the settings as needed.
  • Click OK.

Netscape Navigator 7.1 for Windows

  • From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  • In the left panel of the Preferences dialog box, click the + (plus sign) in the box to the left of Advanced.
  • Click Cache.
  • Click Clear Cache.
  • In the Preferences dialog box, click OK.

Safari

  • From the Safari menu, select Empty Cache.
  • When prompted, click Empty to confirm that you want to empty the cache.

Firefox 3.5 or higher for Mac OS X

  • From the Tools menu, select Clear Recent History...
  • From the Time range to clear: drop-down menu, select the desired range; to clear your entire cache, select Everything.
  • Click the down arrow next to "Details" to choose which elements to clear. Click Clear Now.

Firefox 3.0 for Mac OS X

  • In Firefox, from the Tools menu, select Clear Private Data.
  • Select the elements you want to clear (e.g., Browsing history, Cache, Cookies), and then click Clear Private Data Now.

Google Chrome

  • Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.  If you don't see the wrench icon, you can go to the menu bar at the top of your screen and select Chrome > Clear Browsing Data to open the Clear Browsing Data dialog.
  • Select Tools.
  • Select Clear browsing data.
  • In the dialog that appears, select the check boxes for the types of information that you want to remove.
  • Use the "Clear data from this period" menu to select the amount of data that you want to delete.
  • Click Clear browsing data.

Netscape 6.x or later and Mozilla for Mac OS and Mac OS X

  • In Mac OS X, from the Netscape or Mozilla menu, select Preferences In Mac OS 9.x or earlier, from the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  • In the left panel of the Preferences dialog box, click the arrow to the left of Advanced.
  • Click Cache.
  • Either click the Clear Cache button, or click both the Clear Memory Cache and Clear Disk Cache buttons.
  • In the Preferences dialog box, click OK.
